Bachelor in Mass Communication (B.M.C)

This has been designed to provide students with a firm grounding in communication skills. It aims to develop an ability for critical thinking and creativity and to give the students an opportunity to combine the theoretical curriculum with practical applications, through detailed research, lucid writing skills, oral presentation skills and a mastery of various mass communications media in our global information age. This course will prepare students to work across more than one area in the rapidly expanding world of media and corporate communication. It provides key technological skills and knowledge for work in corporate media and communication fields, as well as an understanding of issues and debates concerning media, communication and information.

A student who has passed 10 + 2 in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks can seek admission. The medium of instruction is English and all exams will have to be written in English. All students will undergo an English Proficiency Test after securing admission, based on which they will be divided into different groups for English Proficiency Classes.

BMC students can proceed to Master in Mass Communication (MMC). The broad expertise and skills gained through Mass Communication ensures excellent careers for the graduates even in other professions besides Media. Various employment areas for them are Blogs, Radio Telecasting Companies, Websites, Central Information Service, Advertising Agencies, Broadcasting Corporations, Legal Affairs Department, Photography Companies, Press Information Bureau, Periodicals and Magazines, etc. Some government organizations that offer candidates who have completed mass communication courses are All India Radio (AIR), Doordarshan, Rajbhasha Department in Human Resources Development ministry, etc.

Students will undergo a rigorous On-the-Job Training (OJT) in the sixth semester for about four weeks. Efforts will be made to find opportunities for this outside Patna. All expenses of such trainings will be met by the students.
